LEARNING UNIT #1

What is "American"?

Hello! In this unit you will be learning about the 6 cultural dimensions on Geerte Hofstede webpage.

A rubric for this assignment can be found here.

Step #1: Bubbl.us

Start by brainstorming using the Geerte Hofstede Cultural Dimensions and Country Profiles.

You will find the dimensions on this page.

You will find the profiles within the country comparison tool.

Please use Bubbl.us to create a Mind Map and submit it with your final publication. An example of the structure to use for your Mind Map is pictured below and also can be found on my Hofstede Mind Map Example Page

Step #2: Google Tour Builder

Use this tool to create a tour of the different countries listed on your mind map! You do not need to visit a country twice for different dimensions. Instead, travel to each country and share the information you used from the country profile tool. Also, add the other statistics listed on the site and the reasoning for the choosing that country to talk about a specific dimension on your mind map. The capital of the country should be where you head to for the tour.

Example: "USA

Rates 91 on individualism

(Reason why USA rates so high)

68 on indulgence

62 Masculinity

46 Uncertainty Avoidance

40 Power Distance

26 Long Term Orientation."

A sample of how to map this tour can be found here.

Step #3: Easel.ly

Pick one cultural dimension and create an infographic showing each of the countries you discussed in your tour. Label the countries on the map with their name and their statistic for that dimension. Design a key to show a visual representation of the difference between these countries. Separate the key into 4 parts that are listed as 1-25, 26-50, 51-75, & 75-100.

A sample can be found here.

Step #4: Canva.com

This step helps you as you're getting ready to publish. Create a "Blog Title" or "Social Media" sized graphic on Canva. This graphic should be slightly informational but primarily should focus on drawing the reader in to your other materials. Look for an example on the blog page in step #5!

Step #5: Blogger

Lastly, you should then publish the information you learned on your own blog. Use blogger to create a site like this.
